Oregon transfer OT Jac'Qawn McRoy commits to Arkansas

Former Oregon offensive tackle Jac’Qawn McRoy has committed to Arkansas, via the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. McRoy hasn’t seen any action for the Ducks this season and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
McRoy played high school football at Clay-Chalkville (AL), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 199 overall recruit and No. 15 offensive tackle in the 2024 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
In his senior campaign with Clay-Chalkville, McRoy led the program to a 14-0 record and the Alabama 6A state championship. For his efforts, he earned a spot in the Under Armour All-America Game and was selected to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game.
At 6-foot-8, 375 pounds, Jac’Qawn McRoy boasts size you can’t teach and is a major addition to Arkansas’ budding offensive line. Arkansas only allowed 34 sacks this season, ranking 12th in the SEC. It’s a major improvement for the Razorbacks, who gave up 47 sacks last season.
Much of Arkansas’ sudden improvement on the offensive line is thanks to the addition of O-line coach Eric Mateos. Ahead of the 2024 campaign, Mateos detailed his vision for the Razorbacks’ trench unit.

“I mean talent matters. It matters,” Mateos said. “You never discount talent, but the makeup and character and cohesiveness of your offensive line room far outweighs your talent. So, you need the right type of kids in this day and age that can handle the pressure, can handle the scrutiny.
“We’re the only position on Planet Earth that plays with our back to the wall. We’re the only ones that only have negative stats. So, we have to be resilient as a group. And we say all the time, you can play great for 67 plays, but on the three plays that don’t go your way, the guy you’re playing against is SEC player of the week and you have everybody yelling at you how much you stink.”
