Sam Pittman sends message to Arkansas fans wanting him fired: 'If I was a fan, I'd be mad at me too'

One week after dropping a heartbreaker to Memphis, which came a week after an equally painful loss to Ole Miss, Arkansas coach Sam Pittman was hoping to show something with a home date against Notre Dame. Instead, the Razorbacks flopped.
The Fighting Irish never stopped punching in a 56-13 bloodbath that left the Razorbacks wondering what went wrong. And once again, Pittman was squarely in the crosshairs.
On the hot seat for quite some time now, Pittman might be on his last leg judging by questions from reporters after the game. He was peppered.
One reporter asked him a question that rambled a bit and essentially imputed that many fans wanted him fired. Pittman cut in.
“Are you asking a question or you telling me what the fans think?” he said.
Then Sam Pittman got down to brass tacks. He outlined how he’s feeling right now as the team struggles.
“Well, I mean A) I understand. I get it,” he said. “If I was a fan I’d be mad at me too. You know? I’d be frustrated as hell with me. But here’s what I’ll say: As long as I’m the head coach at Arkansas I’m going to fight my butt off to get the guys out there and how long that is, that’s not, it is partly up to me because of what we put on the field, but that’s not my call.”

Sam Pittman seemed to realize the reality he’s in right now. Any game could be his last if things aren’t turned around. That window might already be past him.
But until it is, he vowed to do everything in his power to turn things around. He continued.
“If I’m worried about that all the time I won’t be able to do as good a job as I possibly can,” Sam Pittman said. “But I will say this: If I was the fans I’d be mad at me too. Hell, I’m mad at me, to be perfectly honest.”
Could Arkansas have a staff shakeup not involving Sam Pittman in the coming days? That was another question posed to the head coach.
“The game got over, what, 20 minutes ago?” Pittman said. “Listen, we owe it to everybody to put the best product out there, so there’s a lot of things that come in play with that.”
