Arkansas QB Taylen Green exited with a lower-body injury in the third quarter of the loss for the ‘Hogs in Austin on Saturday. That’s now something the team is having to monitor going into this week as far as their quarterback situation.

Bobby Petrino shared the latest on the Razorbacks’ plan at quarterback for this week with the first answer of his press conference on Monday. He said nothing has yet been decided, with more to check in on over the next few days, between either Green or KJ Jackson, who took his place this weekend against Texas.

“Oh, no. Not yet. Not yet,” said Petrino. “We got to play it out in practice and make sure everybody is in good shape. But – and we probably won’t even announce it, you know. We’ll just work it and see who’s ready to go.”

Petrino then reiterated similar thoughts of what he said when Jackson was originally inserted for Green. Their starter could have come back according to what was said by their medical staff, but he decided to leave in the backup considering they still scored 17 points with him taking snaps for the Razorbacks.

“Yeah, (Green) is healthy,” said Petrino. “He was given the clear to come back in the game. I made the decision that, when he was healthy, when they told me that Taylen is ready to go? That was the words they said – Taylen is ready to go. And I said, no, we’re going to stay with KJ, so we kept KJ in the game.”

When he exited, Green was 10/20 (50%) for 118 yards and a bad interception he threw on the play which he was injured on, having also rushed for 56 yards and another score, against the Longhorns. Then, in his place, Jackson made the first true appearance of his collegiate career and was 16/29 (55.2%) for 206 yards and a touchdown, while rushing as well for 17 yards and another score. That, as noted by Petrino, had the offense going just as well, with 20 points by the unit in the first half with Green and 17 more, once the game was already fairly out of reach, with Jackson.

“I thought (KJ) earned it – took the ball, drove us down, think we got three scores with him in the game, two touchdowns and a field goal,” said Petrino. “I thought he did a good job.”

Again, Arkansas hasn’t decided anything yet as far as quarterback goes, besides their interim’s hope to not have to necessarily play both. They’ll just have to see as the week goes in determining whether it’ll be Green again or Jackson as the Razorbacks’ QB1 against Missouri on Saturday in the Battle Line Rivalry.

“Really, it’s too early to even answer any of these, but I understand the questions, you know. It’s, you know, a big thing – who’s going to be the quarterback this weekend?” said Petrino. “But, I really wouldn’t know that.

“That’s not exactly what you’d like to do. You’d like to have the starter come in and play really well and drive us up and down the field, score a bunch of points, no turnovers, and play well and not have a thought in your mind that you’re going to rotate quarterbacks. I’ve never really been a huge believer in that…So, I’m not going to want to do that. That’s for sure.”
