Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green was injured on the final play of Saturday’s game against Mississippi State. He hit his head hard on the ground, then was escorted to the locker room as the final seconds ticked away.

On Wednesday, interim coach Bobby Petrino provided a hopeful update on the talented playmaker. Arkansas has a bye this week, then will take on LSU the following week.

“Taylen practiced last night. Did a good job,” Petrino said. “He’s feeling good. He still has to do a good job this week of being in the training room and getting treatment and getting back to 100%. But I’m very encouraged that he will, much more than I was after the game.”

Taylen Green was attempting to extend a play on fourth-and-13 late in the fourth quarter, scrambling deep in the backfield to his right. As he did, a defender quickly closed down the space.

The defender appeared to try to wrap up Green as he released a pass. Taylen Green was slung down to the turf, and the back of his head hit the ground hard. Meanwhile, he was flagged for intentional grounding, effectively ending the game.

He was down on the ground for a solid minute or two as trainers came to tend to him. Several teammates also surrounded the quarterback, who had put up a valiant effort in the 38-35 loss to Mississippi State. Green headed to the locker room just before the contest ended.

So it’s definitely good news that Arkansas feels Taylen Green might be on track to play against the Tigers. The Razorbacks could certainly use him.

Petrino gives two other injury updates

In addition to the new notes on Taylen Green, Petrino also provided injury updates on EDGE Charlie Collins and defensive back Jordan Young. He explained.

“Charlie Collins has some work to do,” Petrino said. “He won’t practice this week, but we do have an outside chance of having him available and ready to go next week.

“Jordan, I think Jordan is also a guy that we’ve got some rehab to get done and do this week. But we are encouraged that we’ll have him available next week also.”
