Auburn starting cornerback Jay Crawford plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he confirmed to On3. He has started 18 games for the Tigers.

Crawford was a true freshman in 2024 and earned SEC All-Freshman honors, as well as On3 True Freshman All-American honors. He will be highly sought after in the transfer portal.

During his true freshman season on The Plains, Jay Crawford put up the kind of numbers that would make him a promising future star. He logged 15 tackles, an interception, seven pass breakups and eight passes defended.

He put up similar numbers in 2025. This season, Crawford finished with 15 tackles, 1.0 tackles for a loss, an interception, four pass breakups and five passes defended.

Jay Crawford is not the only player to announce a move out of Auburn in recent days. Following the Tigers’ coaching change, a handful of players have made their intent clear to find options elsewhere.

Jay Crawford not the only recent departure

In addition to Jay Crawford, Auburn offensive tackle Seth Wilfred plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Wilfred just wrapped up his second season with the program, now looking to continue elsewhere. Wherever he does land, it will be stop No. 3 for Wilfred in his career.

Former head coach Hugh Freeze brought Wilfred to the Plains via the JUCO ranks. He played in one game during the 2024 season, seeing time against Alabama A&M. From there, Wilfred did not make another appearance for Auburn.

Wilfred attended Snow College and was a highly-ranked JUCO prospect after being named an NJCAA All-American for the 2023 season. A couple of other power conference schools offered the offensive tackle, both in the Big 12. Arizona State and Iowa State were after him, only to lose out to Auburn.

“Seth Wilfred is doing a nice job,” Auburn offensive line coach Jake Thornton said during the preseason. He’s young and inexperienced. I relate him to where Too Tall was last year, but he’s younger than Too Tall. Big body with some athletic body and some traits that I believe when we get more time underneath us, he’s going to shine on the offensive line.”

Including Jay Crawford, Auburn now has 13 players who have declared their intent to enter the transfer portal. You can follow entries those here.
