Auburn EDGE Jamonta Waller plans to enter NCAA transfer portal
Auburn EDGE Jamonta Waller plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He has played very sparingly in his two seasons with the Tigers.
Prior to that, though, Waller was a highly regarded recruit coming out of the high school ranks. The former four-star prospect flipped to Auburn from Florida late in the process, with the Tigers also beating out the Penn State Nittany Lions for his services.
But success at the college level has so far been hard to come by for Jamonta Waller. He redshirted in 2024 as a true freshman.
That decision came after Waller suffered ligament damage in his foot during pass-rush drills. He had surgery to repair the issue, but it ended his freshman campaign. Waller played in just two games and recorded two tackles.
However, the once-coveted defensive player didn’t see game action for Auburn in 2025. There have also been some troubles off the field.
Jamonta Waller was arrested in May 2024 and charged with malicious mischief involving the property of another. Waller was one of 21 Picayune Memorial High School students arrested and charged with malicious mischief.
As for what schools could be after the talented defender in the portal, don’t sleep on the schools that were most prominent in his high school recruitment. Florida was chief among those.

“Florida is a great school, but Auburn never stopped recruiting me. Coach (Hugh) Freeze stayed on contact, he reached out and always let me know he wanted me on his side,” Waller told On3’s Chad Simmons. “Auburn is the best fit for me all around. Being a smaller city, it has that hometown vibe.
“The connection with the staff played a big role in my decision. Coach Garrett and Coach Freeze, being from Mississippi and always letting me know them Mississippi boys are different. That went a long way with me. … Coach Freeze has done it in the past so he has proven himself to be the man for the job. I am excited to be a part of the foundation of what coach Freeze is trying to build.”
With Freeze now out at Auburn, Jamonta Waller appears to be on his way out, too. Waller joined the Auburn program after an impressive high school career, including earning Class 6A Mr. Football honors in Mississippi.
He won back-to-back state titles during his high school career. Waller finished his senior season with 69 tackles, 9 sacks, 22 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles and a blocked punt as a senior.
