Elyjah Freeman finishes tomahawk poster for Auburn against Houston

No. 22 Auburn is in the midst of trying to make a second-half comeback against No. 1 Houston. In doing so, Elyjah Freeman tried to take the roof off the building in Birmingham with a poster against the Cougars.
The minute before the first media timeout coming out of halftime, Freeman drove through the lane to slam in a tomahawk against Houston. It was even better as it was called as an and-one, albeit with him missing the free throw afterward, as he finished the dunk over the top of Chris Cenac and Joseph Tugler.
The flush brought Freeman to seven points (3-6 FG, 1-2 3PT) on the afternoon so far. He also had two assists and a rebound to that point in 19 minutes of play for the Tigers. He’d eventually finish with two more boards and an additional missed three-point attempt, to go along with one of the plays of the game for either team, in a total of 30 minutes played in what ended as a 73-72 loss to Houston this afternoon at Legacy Arena.
Freeman is in his first season at Auburn, and in Division I after transferring up this offseason from Lincoln Memorial in Division II. He did so as a Top-100 transfer per On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players, as he eventually committed to come to The Plains in April to play for Bruce Pearl prior to his retirement and the program’s coaching change to Steven Pearl.
Freeman, through his first three games so far with two of those being starts for the Tigers, has averaged 11.3 points (52.2% FG, 14.3% 3PT), 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals. He was also coming off a career-best game going into this one this weekend, scoring 21 points (7-12 FG, 1-4 3PT) with five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block in a 93-62 win over Wofford back on Tuesday.

Freeman has already flashed potential in just a few games played for Auburn. That came by way of athleticism today, with him throwing down a candidate for one of the dunks of the year this season just two weeks into the slate for college basketball.
Steven Pearl chases down official following controversial no-call on game-winning attempt vs. Houston
At the end of what was obviously a contentious, physical game against Top-20 opponents, No. 22 Auburn got three looks at a potential game-winner, down one with seconds left, against No. 1 Houston. The last one, though, was incredibly controversial to the Tigers’ bench, with Steven Pearl getting after an official following the final buzzer in Birmingham.
With a second left, Auburn threw a lob up to KeShawn Murphy to try to tap one in as time expired, but he missed as he was defended on his cut by Kingston Flemmings and on the attempt by Milos Uzan. No call was made, and, with that, Pearl was quickly to the other side of the floor to yell at one of the officials as he pointed to the floor at Murphy.
