The Auburn Tigers are coming into the 2025 season with expectations that they take massive strides forward. In particular, head coach Hugh Freeze is hoping that wide receiver Cam Coleman can help his offense improve next season.

Ahead of the season, Freeze appeared on See Ball Get Ball. There, he praised Coleman and explained what it is that makes him such a special receiver.

“Cam is such a likable kid,” Hugh Freeze said. “And so coachable… length first, and speed. Then he has these natural ball skills that just, it seems, I don’t care what’s around him. He just feels like that ball is his, and he’s naturally on the timing where you’ve seen some receivers before they’re in the right position, but they’re covered, but the timing of the jump is a little off. They’re not high pointing it. Man, you don’t ever feel like that’s the case for him.”

Cam Coleman came to Auburn as a five-star recruit in the Class of 2024. There, he was the fourth-ranked player nationally and the second-ranked receiver in that recruiting cycle.

As a freshman, Cam Coleman quickly broke out for Auburn. He would play 11 games and had 37 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had 16.2 yards per reception.

“It just seems kind of like, natural, at, ‘Alright, here’s where I’ve got to go get it.’ Then, he wants to be coached. In this day and time where kids are, you know, looking at their worth on On3 and whatever they’re supposed to be worth and all of that,” Freeze said. “You just don’t get the impression that he ever gets caught up in that at all, and it’s kind of refreshing. He’s fun to coach.”

Hugh Freeze has had his share of excellent wide receivers as a coach in the past. That includes at Ole Miss, when he had several key receivers that Cam Coleman earned favorable comparisons to, which if he could live up to next season, might make him one of the best receivers in the country.

“But his length and size. He reminds me of the guys I had at Ole Miss when we signed Van Jefferson, DK Metcalf, AJ Brown, Laquon Treadwell, Evan Engram, those guys there. He reminds me of those guys,” Freeze said. “And you forget he’s just gonna be a sophomore, and he’s still kind of learning the game.”

Hugh Freeze compares hype around Jourdin Crawford to Robert Nkemdiche

Cam Coleman isn’t the only young Auburn star that Hugh Freeze is excited about moving forward. On the defensive side, he also recently praised Jourdin Crawford, who he compared to another star from his Ole Miss days, Robert Nkemdiche.

“It would be hard to say that I’ve had one as a freshman. Maybe, probably Robert Nkemdiche. When we signed him, he was one of the top players in the country. Jourdin’s strength and explosiveness is special. He’s very difficult to handle,” Freeze said. “And we’ve got a really good center in Connor Lew, and Jourdin is a handful.”

Hugh Freeze and his Auburn Tigers certainly have talent. They’ll be tested early in the season, though, opening on August 29th on the road against Baylor.
