Malcolm Simmons domestic assault case: All charges dropped on Auburn WR

Good news out of the Plains, as all charges against Auburn wide receiver Malcolm Simmons have been dropped. Simmons was previously arrested due to domestic assault with strangulation or suffocation in mid-July.
“All charges in Malcolm Simmons’ domestic assault case have been dropped,” Bryan Matthews of On3 | Rivals’ Auburn Sports said via X.
Simmons remained with Auburn throughout the process, even practicing when preseason camp recently began. Head coach Hugh Freeze felt confident enough to keep his wide receiver out there despite the charges against him. Based on the intel received, Freeze said there was no reason to do otherwise.
“Based on the information that I’ve been given from our administration that have knowledge of the matter, he’s been cleared to participate in team activities,” Freeze said at the opening of camp on July 30. “That’s all the information I have.”
Now, this is something Simmons will be hoping to put behind him moving forward. Attention can switch over to the football field where an important season is ahead of Auburn. Simmons figures to play a major role for them, hoping to be a part of the best wide receiver room in the country. Alongside Simmons is fellow second-year player Cam Coleman and the highly-touted Eric Singleton out of the NCAA transfer portal. Opposing defenses will have to pick their poison.

Simmons is entering his second season at Auburn after putting together an impressive first go-round as a true freshman. Playing in 12 games, Simmons caught 40 passes for 451 yards and three touchdowns. He finished as the third-leading receiver for the Tigers on the year.
This comes after being one of the top high school prospects and a massive win on the trail for Freeze. Simmons played high school football at Alexander City (AL) Benjamin Russell, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 190 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Auburn begins its season on Aug. 29, having a massive game against the Baylor Bears. Freeze is in his third season in charge, wanting to finally put together some results. Getting one in the opener against Baylor would be a positive step forward before getting into the SEC schedule.
Thankfully, the Simmons situation has been sorted out before getting on the field. Big news for not just the wide receiver but Auburn as a whole.
