Baylor head coach Dave Aranda confirmed offensive line coach Mason Miller is no longer with the program. He called it a “personal matter.”

Miller was in the middle of his second season with Baylor as the offensive line coach. He previously served as the OC of Tarleton State in 2023.

Miller was the offensive line coach for Mike Leach at Mississippi State from 2020-22, adding run-game coordinator duties in 2022, and Washington State (2018-19). He twice served as the offensive coordinator at Tarleton (2014-16, 2023) and boasted experience in building the Air Raid system from the ground up with Hal Mumme at Valdosta State, Southeastern Louisiana, New Mexico State and McMurray.

At Baylor, he was a stalwart in an improving offense line, aligning with Aranda’s philosophies as head coach. Miller put together one of the best offensive line units in the nation in 2024 as well. A year after ranking as the 112th best offensive line in the nation according to Sport Source Analytics offensive line efficiency ratings in 2023, Miller led the Bears to a No. 7 finish in 2024, and third-best among Power 4 schools.

Miller’s coaching record includes time as an assistant Nevada (2017), head coach (2011-12) and offensive line coach (2009-10) at McMurray, New Mexico State (2005-08), offensive line (2004) and running backs (2003) coach at Southeastern Louisiana. He got his collegiate coaching star as a student-assistant in 1997 at his alma mater Valdosta State, one of the first collegiate tests of the Air Raid system under Mumme.

Miller began his full-time coaching career at Valwood High School in 1998 where, as the offensive coordinator, he helped turn around a team that went 1-19 in the previous two seasons. With Miller leading the offense, Valwood High School earned a playoff berth in 1998 and a state championship in 1999. Miller’s offense was the state of Georgia’s top-ranked offense in 1999.

Miller opened his coaching career as a student assistant at Valdosta State, which followed a two-year playing career at the school. It remains to be seen what Baylor will do with the OL coach role under Aranda for the rest of the season.

Baylor is coming off a 41-20 loss to Cincinnati, falling to 4-4 on the season. Aranda will look to lead the Bears back to the postseason after going 8-5 in 2024.
