Colorado began the season on a 3-0 high, but has been sent down to reality having lost four of its last five. Now, the Buffaloes are going to be cutting it close when it comes to contending for bowl eligibility.

Head coach Deion Sanders, who is historically a winner everywhere he’s been, said that he is ready to get back to the early season success his team experienced to begin the year after losing to UCLA on Saturday.

“I would love to win, I’m accustomed to winning. And we will win. We will win. Just put your seatbelt on and hold on, we will win,” Sanders said postgame. “You got to see what could possibly happen with the team that we have, I mean, shoot, we only got our butts kicked once. That was in Oregon. We got our butts kicked, there wasn’t no winning that.

“All the other games, you could see how we could’ve won those games. We could’ve done that, so that’s called hope in our book, and I’m thankful and happy for that. I appreciate you all, God bless you. I want you to have a safe trip home, wherever you’re going, wherever you’re headed. Let’s wake up and smile tomorrow and bless someone.”

It’s not as if the Buffs aren’t competitive in their losses, either. They lost to Stanford in double overtime after leading 29-0 at halftime and two weeks prior, lost to USC by seven in a comeback effort that fell just short. During Colorado’s lone victory through the stretch, they defeated Arizona State on a last-second field goal. The 28-16 loss is the only example of the opposition pulling away from Colorado during that stretch.

Regardless of the outcome of Colorado’s games — people are showing up and tuning in to see Coach Prime and his Buffs. 70,865 came to see his team lose to UCLA, the largest attendance the Rose Bowl has seen this season.

“I wanna set record numbers of winning. I do,” Sanders said. “I admire the fans and they came out and did a wonderful job in packing the stadium and selling out the stadium. What is it, eight consecutive sellouts? Yeah, I mean I’m ecstatic about that but I would love to be on the winning end of those sellouts. I really, truly would. That would be phenomenal.”

Colorado now turns its attention toward quarterback DJ Uiagalelei and a ranked Oregon State team. ESPN’s Matchup Predictor gives the Beavers an 80.2 percent chance of leaving Boulder victorious. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET live on ESPN.
