Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders has reportedly been staying at his Texas estate throughout much of the offseason while dealing with an unspecified health matter, according to USA Today. The 57-year-old Sanders is reportedly “feeling well” according his son, Deion Jr., but it’s unclear when he might return to Boulder as the Buffaloes work through their annual summer football camps this month.

Deion Sanders Jr. addressed his father’s health during a YouTube livestream Sunday from the family’s palatial estate in Canyon, Texas, adding the elder Sanders was in his bedroom recovering.

“He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,” Deion Jr. said June 8 on the livestream, according to USA Today. “When we get back in Boulder, I don’t know. I’m waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I’ll go. Until then, I’m gonna sit here with him.”

Sanders also recently canceled a scheduled speaking engagement originally scheduled for Sunday because of an “unavoidable last-minute scheduling change,” according to The Foundation for Sickle Cell Research, which previously promoted Sanders as the foundation’s keynote speaker for its annual symposium last weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The foundation replaced Sanders with Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson.

This isn’t the first medical situation Sanders has faced in recent years. The elder Deion Sanders missed a 2023 Pac-12 Conference media even in Las Vegas while dealing with recurring blood clots in his legs. Sanders previously had two toes on his left foot amputated and parts of his left calf removed in 2021 after a scary situation involving blood clots in his legs.

Colorodo hosted multiple football camps for high school and eligible high school graduates last week and is scheduled for a youth football camp later this week, as well as a women’s clinic Thursday, according to USA Today.

Big 12 Media Days are scheduled for July 8-9 in Friscot, Texas. The Buffaloes open the 2025 college football season Aug. 29 in Boulder against Georgia Tech.

Deion Sanders blasts ‘foolish’ reports on Shedeur Sanders pre-draft process

In April, quarterback Shedeur Sanders suffered an unprecedented slide in the NFL Draft, falling to the fifth round after being projected to go as early as in the top three picks. While there were several reasons for Sanders’ slide, multiple reports emerged claiming that Sanders’ pre-draft interviews went poorly with some potential suitors.

Sanders ultimately landed with the Cleveland Browns when they drafted him with the No. 144 overall pick. During an appearance on the most recent episode of the “Say What Needs To Be Said” podcastColorado head coach and Shedeur’s father, Deion Sanders, weighed in on the reports of his son’s pre-draft interviews.

“It did hurt. But the Bible says God uses the foolish things to confound the wise. There was some foolish stuff that went on, but that gave them something that they needed,” Sanders said. “Like that edge that Tom [Brady] had, it gave them the edge that you had, it gave them the edge that I have. Folks said we weren’t gonna be nothing. But we had to prove that. It gave them the edge that they needed. Both of them.”

The rumor that Shedeur Sanders didn’t interview well gained traction after an anonymous NFL assistant coach told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that Sanders’ interview was one of the worst he’s ever seen. Additionally, Todd McShay of The Ringer reported that Sanders’ pre-draft interview with the New York Giants went south after he took offense to criticism.
