Deion Sanders promises 'biggest recruiting weekend' in Colorado program history

Deion Sanders has been head coach at Colorado for less than a week. Yet it has already been an eventful few days for the Buffaloes.
Sanders has landed multiple commitments — including Fort Myers (Fla.) IMG Academy 2025 four-star wide receiver Winston Watkins Jr. — and parted ways with nearly 10 members of Colorado’s 2023 recruiting class. Following Jackson State‘s performance in the Celebration Bowl on Dec. 17, he expects to make a big recruiting impact.
“I’m going to get back on a plane and go and have the biggest recruiting weekend they’ve ever had in the history of Colorado,” Sanders said on HBCU Gameday. “That’s how it’s gonna go down.”
Some of the players who have recently committed to Sanders include Watkins Jr., Columbus (Ohio) KIPP Columbus three-star offensive tackle Jordan Hall and Compton (Calif.) Leuzinger 2024 three-star wide receiver Daijon Calimon. Colorado’s staff is working to land some blue-chip prospects, as well.

On Thursday, Colorado tight ends coach Tim Brewster paid a visit to Lincoln (Neb.) Lincoln East four-star athlete Malachi Coleman, the No. 71 overall prospect in the 2023 On3 Consensus. Meanwhile, Derby (Kan.) four-star running back Dylan Edwards listed the Buffaloes as one of his top programs after decommitting from Notre Dame.
“Deion told me… that he really wants me to be a part of (what) he’s building at Colorado,” Edwards told On3’s Chad Simmons.
Right now, Colorado’s 2023 recruiting class contains 11 commitments. The group is led by Ardmore (Okla.) Plainview three-star wide receiver Morgan Pearson.
