Report: Duke QB Maalik Murphy plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal

Duke QB Maalik Murphy plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the news on Twitter on Monday.
“Duke starting QB Maalik Murphy plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he told ESPN,” Thamel tweeted tonight.
Murphy just finished his lone year with the Blue Devils after transferring in following two seasons with the Texas Longhorns. In total, he has appeared in 19 games with 14 of those being starts, most of which came during the one year in Durham, where he has posted a record of 11-3 overall as a QB1.
Murphy is 294-492 (59.8%) overall in passing for 3,410 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in his collegiate career.
With Duke this fall, Murphy was 254-421 (60.3%) for 2,933 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. That helped the Blue Devils to a record of 9-3, one of their best in recent history, in the program’s debut season under Manny Diaz.

Murphy, a native of Gardena, California, played high school football at Junipero Serra. He was the No. 205 overall recruit there as a four-star prospect in the 2022 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as the No. 12 QB in the class and the No. 15 player out of his state.
Murphy has proven to be a viable starter at quarterback in his chances through three years as a redshirt sophomore. He’ll now look to do that at a third program now with his intentions to enter the portal again this offseason.
