Billy Napier cautions safety before Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian is expected to strike the coast of Florida on Wednesday night. It will then progress over the state and up the east coast. Because of this, college programs in the path of the storm need to be prepared to deal with the storm. That includes its after-effects, and an unpredictable schedule. Florida and head coach Billy Napier are among those who need to be ready for the storm.
While speaking to the media, Billy Napier was asked about Hurricane Ian.
“I think probably the big thing here is, probably more important, is just that we hope that everyone is prepared, is making preparation,” Billy Napier said.

“I know that we’re going to have some wind and significant rain here, but we’ve got a lot of people in our state that are in for a rough ride here. So, our thoughts and prayers are with them as they prepare. A lot of, you know, having been a part of these things in the past, it’s nothing to play around with.”
Prior to coming to Florida, Billy Napier was the head coach at Louisiana. Just last season, his Ragin’ Cajuns had to deal with Hurricane Ida. So, he does have experience with this kind of weather event.

“So, you know, we’ve got a game this week and all that, but I think these things are a little bit more important and certainly we’re going to do everything we can do within our organization to help our players, their families, anybody maybe that’s at risk,” Billy Napier continued.
“And then, certainly, what it does for me is it makes you very aware of the thankfulness that we should have for a lot of people that go to work that are in a career where they serve others and these are very difficult times. So, it makes you more thankful for that. So, you know, we need to get ready to go there and we’ll adjust as we see fit.”
