According to Swamp247, Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway is in a boot after the team’s loss to the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday. The injury is an “undisclosed” one for the time being, continuing a stretch of health issues for Lagway since taking over as the program’s starting quarterback. On3’s Andy Staples and Pete Nakos have since confirmed the news.

Lagway struggled against Miami, throwing for 61 yards while completing just 12 of his 23 throws. His numbers on the ground are not much better, losing eight yards on as many attempts. However, four of those were sacks by the Hurricanes and get baked into the stats.

As for the whole season, Lagway has 690 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions to his name. Five of those turnovers came during the LSU defeat, throwing his first a week prior against USF.

Further down in their report, Swamp247 added there is confidence Lagway will be healthy for the Oct. 4 showdown against the Texas Longhorns. Florida does not have a game this week, observing a bye. There will be some time for Lagway to heal whatever is currently ailing him.

Wins are becoming a must at this point for head coach Billy Napier. His previously cooled-off seat regained some heat due to Florida’s 1-3 start to the season. SEC scheduling did them no favors either, playing six more games against teams currently in the AP poll top 25. If the Gators are going to pull through, a healthy Lagway is almost a requirement.

Nick Saban explains struggles for DJ Lagway

Injuries are, unfortunately, nothing new for Lagway. He did not throw during most of spring practice and spent the summer getting back on the practice field. Still, issues continue to linger for him, and on-field results prove as such.

Nick Saban gave his thoughts as to why Lagway is struggling, tying it to the injuries. Not getting practice reps plays a big role in Saban’s mind.

“Well, I think Florida has the best roster they’ve had in a long time,” Saban said during Friday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show. “I think the quarterback has struggled and I think he’s struggled because he hasn’t been able to practice. He hasn’t been able to get enough reps. You know, some guys can play without practice and some guys need reps to get it right. I don’t know this guy, but he hasn’t played well because he hasn’t been able to practice much.”
