Todd Golden | Florida 2024 Transfer Class

Florida guard Julian Rishwain has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He spent one season with the Gators. He began his career at Boston College, where he played one year, before transferring to San Francisco and playing three seasons.

Rishwain only appeared in eight games for Florida this season, averaging 1.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game while shooting 36.4% from the floor. He averaged 7.6 minutes per contest.

“Julian was an integral part of our NCAA tournament team at San Francisco,” UF head coach Todd Golden said of Rishwain after he transferred to Florida ahead of the 2023-24 season. “He’s an efficient shot maker who had some of his best games against top competition. He has been a part of successful teams and has a great understanding of what it takes to win.”

Rishwain is the third Florida player to enter the transfer portal during or since the 2023-24 season. To soften the blow of its losses, Florida has also added three players via the transfer portal. Rishwain’s decision isn’t the only unfortunate news Florida fans received this week.

Micah Handlogten likely to redshirt 2024-25 season

Per CBS Sports’ John Rothstein, who spoke with Golden, Micah Handlogten “is likely to redshirt” next season. That means his significant injury in the finals of the SEC Tournament could already be ending his junior year in Gainesville after it cut his sophomore season short.

Handlogten transferred to Florida after his one campaign at Marshall, where he was Sun Belt Freshman of the Year. He came in as one of six transfers that made up the No. 4 portal class. That rating was per On3’s 2023 College Basketball Team Transfer Portal Rankings.

In 33 games as a starter, Handlogten averaged 5.3 points and 6.9 rebounds while shooting 62.2% from the field. He paired nicely with Samuel down low for the team in the frontcourt as their two leading rebounders who combined for 14.3 boards a game, 8.3 being on defense while 6.1 came on the offensive glass.

However, early on during Florida’s appearance in the SEC Championship, Handlogten’s season ended after a leg fracture that silenced the crowd at the conference tournament. He needed a stretcher to leave the floor and underwent a surgery later on that day.

Handlogten would then travel with the team to Indianapolis for the NCAA Tournament. That lasted one game after No. 11 Colorado hit a game-winner to secure a 102-100 victory over No. 7 Florida. He obviously did not play, though, and now may miss all of next season based on this report.
