Florida defensive lineman Michai Boireau was arrested over the weekend and spent two nights in jail, according to On3 and GatorsOnline’s Zach Abolverdi. He is facing charges of fleeing deputies at 150 miles per hour and causing serious injury with a vehicle.

Boireau – who is gearing up for his freshman season with the Gators – was later released on a $60,000 bond, according to GatorsOnline. A police report obtained by the Monroe County Reporter said he was clocked at 86 miles per hour on I-75 Saturday night, and when the officer turned his lights on, Boireau sped up to more than 150 miles per hour.

As the officer pursued Boireau, the report said he ran into a Chevy Malibu in the median and injured the driver. He told deputies he was heading back to school and drove away because he was on a suspended license.

“Boireau drove recklessly, radically changing lanes and driving through traffic at speeds of more than 100 mph, passing vehicles on the shoulder,” the report said, via the Reporter. “Boireau entered the rest area near mile marker 178, drove through the rest area, and nearly stopped at the exit before quickly accelerating and entering back onto the interstate.

“As [Officer] Sullivan went around the curve at mile marker 176, he briefly lost sight of Boireau. When the corporal came out of the curve, he saw a wrecked Chevrolet Malibu in the median. Sullivan stopped and ran to the Malibu, which was heavily damaged in the rear. The driver, Derrick Thompson, 58, of College Park, was injured, and Sullivan summoned EMS. Sullivan was returning to his patrol car when he saw Boireau’s BMW with Boireau walking on the shoulder. Deputy John Bogdan and Sgt. Wade Kendrick arrived, and Boireau was ordered to the ground. He was then secured in Bogdan’s patrol car.”

A team spokesperson told GatorsOnline coach Billy Napier is aware of the situation. The program had not publicly addressed the situation at the time of publication.

Michai Boireau went through spring practice with UF after arriving on campus as a three-star recruit. A product of Creekside (Ga.), he was the No. 767 overall player from the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Florida is gearing up for the third season of Napier’s tenure and will begin the 2024 season Aug. 31 against Miami.
