Antonio Cromartie Jr. reveals his preferred position at Florida State

A familiar name is back in Tallahassee playing for Florida State. Antonio Cromartie Jr. is entering his true freshman season for the Seminoles, following in his father’s footsteps. A nice recruiting win at the time for head coach Mike Norvell, questions now surround what position Cromartie will play moving forward.
Cromartie gave his own opinion recently, being open to different spots. However, he did spend some time discussing the advantages of playing safety in the Florida State secondary. Maybe something to bookmark ahead of fall camp.
“I feel like I can play anywhere in our secondary,” Cromartie said. “I feel like that’s the case for all our guys in the room… Just giving us so many chances to just be us, be ballplayers. I feel like especially at safety. Gives us the opportunity to play free and make plays. So that’s probably what I’m most excited for, at either position.”
Cromartie played high school football at Carrollton (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 2,111 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
When things boiled down, there was not too much competition for Cromartie on Florida State’s end. They extended an offer on Christmas Day 2024 and just under a month later, he was committed to the Seminoles. Always a great moment for legacy prospects, Cromartie believes the time to get his on path going is now.

“I feel like for me it was like, I always loved Florida State,” Cromartie Jr. said. “I grew up around it, so obviously I was at every game when I was little. It’s kind of been like a dream to come play here. So in my opinion, why not continue that legacy that he had here? Obviously, he was a great player here and now it’s my time to fill out my path.”
Florida State will begin fall camp in the coming weeks, a critical point in Cromartie’s development. Not only will his long-term position likely be decided but valuable reps will be taken. After Cromoartie provided a vague answer when directly asked, a definite answer might be provided in the near future.
Soon enough, an opportunity to take the field will arise for the first time in his college career. Florida State opens the 2025 season against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Doak Campbell Stadium.
