Florida State QB Jordan Travis took a major leap in his fifth season of college football last fall. Now, as he enters year six with a ton of expectations around him in Tallahassee, Greg McElroy expects him to be even better.

McElroy shared high praise for Travis in an episode of ‘Always College Football’ this weekend. In his eyes, he saw too much development out of Travis from a year ago to think that is going to stop. That has led him to believe that the Seminole’s quarterback will build upon last season with an even better campaign in 2023.

“Jordan Travis? With how he progressed last year? It’d be hard to envision him having a season that would regress whatsoever,” said McElroy.

“I think he’s only going to get better. I think his best football is in front of him,” McElroy said. “His comfort level within the offense, his rapport and chemistry that was developed with the wide receivers? There’s nothing that this young man can’t do on the football field.”

Travis had what was by far the best passing season of his career in 2022. He completed 226 of his 353 attempts (64%) for 3,214 passing yards, good for 9.1 yards per completion. He also totaled 24 passing touchdowns, nine more than any other season in his career, and only five interceptions, his fewest as FSU’s starter.

Travis also brought his dual-threat ability to the table as well with 417 yards and seven more scores on the ground.

That’s why McElroy remains high on what Travis can be and where he can take Florida State during this season. If he leads the Seminoles to another successful year with some primetime wins mixed in, he doesn’t see any reason that he couldn’t be in The Big Apple come awards season.

“I’m really, really a believer in his Heisman candidacy,” stated McElroy. “If he gets a couple of big signature wins? I would not be surprised to see him in New York at the season’s end.”

McElroy reveals why he loves Florida State in 2023

Expectations haven’t been this high in Tallahassee for nearly a decade heading into the 2023 season. But could the Florida State Seminoles be the team to beat in the ACC when it’s all said and done?

He wouldn’t go that far, but revealing the Seminoles to be his No. 6 team in his preseason Top 25 poll, college football analyst Greg McElroy couldn’t say enough about the job head coach Mike Norvell has done putting this season’s roster together.

“I love them this year. I’m drinking the Kool-Aid. Just like the Texas Longhorns, I think Florida State is back,” McElroy said. “I have seen this team play really good football. And I think another year with all the returnees? They’re in good shape.”

“If they can not make mistakes, avoiding the penalties and self-inflicted [wounds],” McElroy said. “This offense should be as good as there is in the ACC.”

With Travis’ experience and confidence, as well as the bevy of offensive players poised to make an instant impact in Norvell’s system, Florida State’s potential for the 2023 season is through the roof.
