Max Williams on Link Jarrett ejection: If that doesn't fire you up there's something wrong with you

After Mississippi State pitcher Karson Ligon struck out Florida State‘s James Hankerson in the bottom of the second inning, he wasn’t shy to let the Seminoles know about it. Florida State head coach Link Jarrett took exception to Ligon’s chatter.
After an umpire reprimanded FSU’s third-base coach for saying something to Mississippi State’s dugout, Jarrett stormed onto the field and got into the umpire’s face. When Jarrett followed the umpire after he attempted to walk away from the argument, the umpire ejected the 53-year-old HC.
Jarrett’s passion inspired his players, who went on to defeat Mississippi State 5-2 and advance to the Super Regionals. After the game, FSU junior Max Williams discussed how Jarrett’s ejection affected the Seminoles’ mindset.
“To see your head coach get ejected, if that doesn’t fire you up, then there’s something wrong with you,” Williams said. “We love Coach so much and all we want to do is perform for him. So to see him do that for us, it meant so much.”
Williams wasn’t the only one who was moved by Jarrett’s explosion. Following the triumph, Florida State pitcher Wes Mendes reflected on the change in the crowd’s attitude after Link Jarrett’s ejection.

“It lit a fire, I would say,” Mendes said. “I didn’t really know what happened. So I was like, I was just kind of, didn’t really know. But yeah, it definitely lit a fire. It got the crowd going, so it was good.”
With the win, Florida State advanced to the Super Regionals for the second consecutive season. Now, the Seminoles will look to repeat history further and appear in the College World Series. Williams is excited for the opportunity.
“That’s just kind of been the standard since I’ve been here,” Williams said. “We had a meeting with our pastor today, Clint, and he’s always talking about how we finished the mission and talking about finishing the mission is us winning the whole thing. So we all just want to fight for each other and truly look at each other at the end and say, we made it.”
Florida State will face off against the winner of the Corvallis Regional. USC and Oregon State are facing off today at 6 p.m. ET to decide the winner of the regional. On Sunday, Oregon State dominated USC in 14-1 fashion.
