Mike Norvell confirms no Florida State players, coaches were hurt in Virginia field storming

The Florida State Seminoles were upset by the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday night, leading to a massive field storm. It was both a chaotic and passionate scene. At the same time, it was hard not to have some concern for the Florida State players and coaches on the field.
Luckily, after the game, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was able to confirm that all of the Seminoles were able to get off the field safely. That’s despite some scary moments early in the rush of fans getting on the field.
“No, I’m not sure of any issues,” Mike Norvell said. “We’ve got everybody in the locker room. So, not sure of any issues.”
There was particular concern about the safety of wide receiver Squirrel White. He was being targeted in the back of the end zone on a fourth down in double overtime. Virginia students had been coming down the hill, hovering, ready to explode onto the field. Once the ball fell to the ground incomplete, and the game ended, they were on the field in the blink of an eye, and White was lying on the ground right in front of them. Luckily, it sounds as if there wasn’t an issue.
Elsewhere, a moment where a fan got in quarterback Thomas Castellanos‘ face, flipping him off while recording, also went viral. That was an action that drew some harsh criticism from broadcaster Joe Tessitore.

“You wanna really talk about that field storm?” Tessitore said. “You don’t flip the bird right in the face of a player and think you’re just gonna go about your day normally. If that happens in a college bar about an hour later, it’s a much different outcome my man.”
In the end, the ACC would assess a $50,000 fine to Virginia. This comes after the ACC instituted a policy this summer to fine programs for field and court stormings. That $50,000 is a first offense and can rise to $100,000 and $200,000 penalties.
Thomas Castellanos on Florida State loss to Virginia
Since getting to Florida State, quarterback Thomas Castellanos has worn his bravado on his sleeve. However, dropping a game to Virginia was a big blow to the Seminoles. At the same time, it’s a loss Castellanos thinks his team needed.
“I think we needed it,” Castellanos said. “I think guys were riding high and were kinda feeling ourselves. Little adversity. We’ll respond and bounce back from here. We have to really quick, but I think we needed it. It will be good for us moving forward. I think this will push us and make us work harder.”
