Florida State head coach Mike Norvell released a statement on the addition of running back Gavin Sawchuk. Sawchuk transferred in from Oklahoma.

Sawchuk has 176 carries for 977 yards, 11 touchdowns, 5.6 yards per carry, 23 catches and 130 receiving yards to his name over the last three years. His best came in 2023 with 120 carries, 744 yards, nine touchdowns and 6.2 yards per carry.

Now that he’s with Florida State, Sawchuk should add a new dimension to the FSU offense. One that Norvell is thrilled about.

“I’m excited to welcome Gavin into the Nole Family,” Norvell said. He is an explosive back who has a chance to be a game-changer. He is the complete package out of the backfield. He has home-run ability, tremendous ball skills and is fantastic pass protection.

“We’ve seen glimpses of that all coming together, as he was as good as any running back in the country during the back half of the 2023 season. Gavin has high character and a relentless work ethic that will allow him to be a positive addition to our program.”

As a member of the Class of 2022, Sawchuk was a four-star recruit out of Littleton (Colo.) Valor Christian, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 1 overall prospect in the state, the No. 10 running back in the class and the No. 142 overall prospect in the class.

“Florida State’s a great school, obviously,” Sawchuk told Warchant. “Have experience playing them my freshman year, losing to them. The staff recruited me coming out of high school and just the opportunity to even re-connect with them. Just have some of those same feelings and sentiment toward me since I’ve entered the portal, it’s just been great.”
