Report: Mike Norvell to contribute $4.5 million of salary to Florida State in restructured contract

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell is contributing a large portion of his salary this season to the university in a restructured contract, according to Yahoo Sports‘ Ross Dellenger.
“FSU coach Mike Norvell is contributing $4.5 million of his salary this year to the university in a restructured contract, sources tell Yahoo Sports,” Dellenger wrote on Twitter. “It is the third such public move from a coach as schools brace for the era of athlete revenue sharing.”
Ahead of a new era of athlete revenue sharing, Norvell is going the extra mile to provide extra money to athletes coming to Florida State.
“The contribution is part of the school’s new Vision of Excellence campaign intended to raise money as schools gear up to share revenue directly with athletes under the new House settlement agreement,” Dellenger wrote. “The settlement permits each school in Division I to share at least $20.5 million with their athletes starting on July 1.”
Norvell received a new contract in the spring that nearly doubled his salary to $9.9 million, per Dellenger. Norvell will make nearly $11 million annual by the end of the contract in 2031.

LSU’s Brian Kelly did something similar, announcing he’d match donations to LSU’s collective up to $1 million.
After a 2-10 season, just one year removed from winning the ACC, Norvell and Florida State hit the reset button. That included bringing in UCF head coach Gus Malzahn as the new offensive coordinator.
“I’m extremely excited to have Gus Malzahn join our staff at Florida State,” Norvell said in his statement on the hiring. “He has one of the most innovative minds in college football and a proven track record of developing elite offenses everywhere he’s been.
“His offenses have consistently showcased a tremendous running game combined with explosive plays through the air. I’m thrilled to work side-by-side with Gus again as we elevate the Florida State offense back to one of the elite groups in college football.”
