Micah Posey super excited for the opportunity to help fix Florida State's pitching issues
Pitching was a struggle for Florida State in Year One of Link Jarrett. The team ERA was at 5.75 which was third to last in the ACC. Opponents hit .265 against the Seminoles as well, another stat you find them in the bottom half of the conference. No matter which way you look at it, a tough season for the pitchers.
Jarrett has called in reinforcements, hiring Micah Posey as Florida State’s next pitching coach. A good move for the program, with Posey previously being at Dallas Baptist. He understands turning the staff around is going to be a “challenge” but is excited to get to work in Tallahassee.
“It’s a challenge and I am super excited for it,” Posey said. “Everything starts on the mound. Anytime you watch a baseball game, it starts on the mound. The impact on there is always going to be great.”
The easiest way to retool a pitching staff in one season is the NCAA transfer portal. Posey believes since Jarrett had limited time last year, it led to the struggles in 2023. Jarrett was fresh off a College World Series appearance with Notre Dame and took the Florida State job soon thereafter.
Posey says there will be more time this year, allowing the Seminoles to be more aggressive and add a couple of nice pieces. His arrival in late June should help the cause too, with Jarrett making the move early in the offseason. Now, they hope it all pays off.

“It’s a double edge sword,” Posey said. “When Link took the job, there’s going to be a lot of attrition with the portal. Guys coming and going with a new coaching staff. Trying to put together a team with a month to go is tough but now you’re a year into it. We’ve positioned ourselves nicely here in the portal as far as adding depth with some quality pieces.”
A big impact can be made right away as well. Gone are the days of taking pitchers who need time to develop while they adjust to Division I college baseball. Florida State will be able to snag guys who are experienced and performed on big stages elsewhere.
“In the portal age, you’re not having to go get that JUCO guy and hope he develops,” Posey said. “You can go get a proven guy with a little more plug and chug. You can get older faster.”
