The Florida State Seminoles offense has a new injury that it needs to find a way to overcome going into Week 2. Head coach Mike Norvell shared that transfer tight end Randy Pittman is dealing with an undisclosed injury and is going to miss Week 2.

Norvell addressed the media going into the game. There, he shared that Pittman is going to be out for Week 2 with that undisclosed injury. Furthermore, while he expects it to be a short period of time, Norvell did not definitively cap how long he’s going to be out going forward.

“Randy Pittman will be out this week, probably here for the next couple,” Norvell said. “We’ll see what it all looks like. He was dealing with an injury there early in camp and was able to kind of manage that for the Alabama game. But he’ll be out for just — it’ll be a short period of time, but he will be out for this week.”

Florida State does have some depth behind Randy Pittman in the tight end room that it can lean on while he’s out. That includes Landen ThomasAmaree Williams, and Markeston Douglas. Of the three, Douglas boasts the most experience, having been in college football since 2021.

“Opportunity to continue to see guys,” Norvell said. “Amaree, Landen. Being able to see, with Landen, excited to get him back into full effect and rolling. Then, Markeston, who played a good amount the other day. So, that’s going to be a great opportunity for those guys and I know Randy will be back here very soon, continuing to help our football team.”

Randy Pittman came to Florida State in the offseason as a transfer from UCF. He followed Gus Malzahn, who had been his head coach with the Knights and is now the offensive coordinator for the Seminoles. A former three-star recruit in the Class of 2023, it’s an offense he’s grown into nicely. In 2024 with UCF, Pittman had 32 receptions for 416 yards and two touchdowns.

As Norvell noted, Pittman was able to play against Alabama despite battling an issue since Fall Camp. In that game, Pittman had two receptions for 18 yards. That was tied for the most receptions any individual player had and it was tied for third in receiving yards among Seminoles.

“He’s a really incredible competitor,” Norvell said. “You felt his physicality, had a couple of big catches there throughout, kind of putting us in position in two drives. … He’s not the biggest guy in the world, but he sure plays like it.”

Next week, Florida State is set to take on East Texas A&M before hosting Kent State in Week 3. After that, ACC will begin in earnest.
