Coming off a bye week, the Florida State Seminoles have had some time now to get healthy. Still, head coach Mike Norvell knows that a pair of his key wide receivers are still banged up, with Squirrel White and Lawayne McCoy on the mend.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Norvell shared an injury update on the pair of wide receivers. The hope is now that both will continue to improve this week, but Norvell noted that it’s McCoy who can be expected to play on Saturday, while White remains a bit of a question mark.

“Squirrel was able to get back out today,” Mike Norvell said. “Get some work in. Lawayne is continuing to push forward. Definitely hopeful. I’m expecting Lawayne to be ready to play here on Saturday. We’ll see what Squirrel as it continues on throughout this week. But, I mean, it was a good step for him today, you know, and just in regards to that.”

Lawayne McCoy came to Florida State as a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024. He was the 203rd-ranked player nationally in that recruiting cycle and the 33rd-ranked wide receiver. He would play in 10 games as a freshman, snagging six receptions for 52 yards. He’d also act as a punt returner. However, an undisclosed injury has kept him from making his 2025 debut. Luckily, as Mike Norvell pointed out, that looks ready to change.

As for Squirrel White, he’s in his first year with Florida State after transferring in from Tennessee. He’s been able to play in each of Florida State’s first two games, making two receptions for 47 yards in the process. However, White suffered what has been described as either a wrist or hand injury against FCS East Texas A&M.

Hopefully, both receivers will be able to go for Norvell and the Seminoles against Kent State this week. That game is scheduled for September 20th at 3:30 p.m. EST. After that, Florida State will dive into ACC play.

Ethan Pritchard update: Mike Norvell reveals positive development in recovery from shooting

The shooting of Florida State freshman Ethan Pritchard has been on everyone’s minds. Earlier in the week, Mike Norvell was able to share the latest on his health as he continues to try and recover from the terrifying ordeal.

“Yeah, you know, I actually went by and saw him this morning, and there has been progress. And, you know, yesterday, you know, he opened his eyes, and it was something that, you know, was emotional for everybody, to be honest with you,” Norvell said. “You know, it’s still a long part of the process, in this process moving forward. But, it was – it puts all things in perspective – the appreciation of a blink. And, you know, he is fighting. His family, you know, is there, so very supportive. There’s still some, you know, major steps along the way that we’re all going to be believing for and supporting and continuing in our prayers. But, you know, just grateful for him, grateful for his family.”

Ethan Pritchard still has a long way to go. Throughout that, he and his family will be able to lean on Florida State and Mike Norvell, though.
