Georgia may be fresh off a national championship, but the Bulldogs are always looking to improve – each and every season. While Kirby Smart wants the best out of his players, he’s constantly pushing them to be the best that they can be – and that all starts in spring practices.

As the Bulldogs are currently going through their spring practice period, the team is scheduled to have a scrimmage on Saturday. Coming into the scrimmage, Smart met with the media on Thursday and was asked what he wanted to see out of his quarterbacks while they’re on the field Saturday.

“It never changes with the quarterback guys,” Smart said. “You could come here 10 years from now and it’s going to be the same thing that it was last year – decision making, accuracy, leadership, intangibles. … I mean, great quarterbacks are accurate and they make good decisions. If you can make good decisions and be accurate and you’ve got good football players around them, then you’re going to be a pretty good football player.

“I want to see them execute the offense, make plays with their feet when things break down. There’s going to be some adversity out there, but the good thing is those guys get an opportunity to do that every practice.”

Smart shouldn’t be too worried about his quarterback position, as Georgia brings back veteran signal-caller Stetson Bennett – who helped guide the Bulldogs to the College Football Playoff national championship last season with 2,862 passing yards and 29 touchdowns.

Alongside the clear-cut-starter Bennett, the Bulldogs’ quarterback room includes Brock Vandagriff, Carson Beck, Jackson Muschamp, Nathan Priestley, Collin Drake and Gunner Stockton – giving Smart plenty of options at the backup position.

Fresh off a 14-win, national title season in 2021, Georgia is scheduled to kickoff its 2022 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 3 against Oregon at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
