Earnest Greene was a priority for Georgia. Alabama, Ohio State, and Texas made their case for the 6-foot-4, 353-pound offensive tackle out of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, but the Bulldogs won out of the No. 60 prospect in the On3 Consensus.

This was a big win for Kirby Smart, Matt Luke, and the staff in Athens.

“Earnest is a nasty and dominant offensive lineman,” said St. John Bosco head coach John Negro. “He is a big, strong, smart, and versatile offensive lineman.”

The size is impressive. The versatility stands out too. Of course, Greene has power. But it is something else that makes the new Georgia Bulldog different.

“Earnest is incredibly smart. He is intelligent off the field and it carries over and shows on it. I see him as a tackle because of his length, size, and ability to move, but he can line up and play anywhere.

“I have always called Earnest the quarterback of our offensive line. Usually, it is the center, but he is a tackle that knows the fronts, the calls, and he recognizes things that many do not.

“He will go to college and be able to pick things up quickly. With that and his size, I think he has a chance to make an impact quickly.”

Greene compared to NFL OL Wyatt Davis

Wyatt Davis played at St. John Bosco before becoming an All-American at Ohio State and getting drafted in the third round by the Minnesota Vikings.

Coach Negro sees similarities.

“Both were dominant finishers on the offensive line here at St. John Bosco,” Negro said. “Both were nasty, both were strong, both were leaders, and they very comparable.

“Like Wyatt, Earnest had all the offers, and both were highly-rated offensive linemen. I think Earnest can go on and do what Wyatt did, and be dominant in college. He has that kind of ability.”

Negro does see one difference between Greene and Davis.

“Wyatt is an inside guy at guard, but with Earnest, I see him as a tackle. They have similar attributes, and they are very comparable on the field, but Earnest is longer.

“His length is going to make him a tackle. You put his length with his ability and his intelligence, and you have a special lineman.”

Greene’s father, Earnest II, played in the NFL after starring at Savannah State, so the bloodlines are on his side too.
