Kirby Smart reacts to 8 OT thriller vs. Georgia Tech: 'All out of 2-point plays'

On Saturday, Georgia mounted a massive comeback to defeat Georgia Tech 44-42 in an eight-overtime thriller. After the game, ESPN’s Katie George asked Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart if he’d ever experienced anything like that before.
“No, I have not,” Smart said. “They got a really good football team, really physical football team, and they really out-physicaled us tonight. Their quarterback is a warrior, and I have so much respect for the way Brent and them play. But, our kids, they are resilient. They never quit. Never say die. It was sloppy. These fans stayed with us. It’s a great game… We’re all out of two-point plays.”
Georgia and Georgia Tech were one overtime away from tying the record for most OTs in a single game. Nonetheless, Georgia running back Nate Frazier prevented the Bulldogs from making even more history, punching in a two-point conversion to give his team the win.
It was a comeback effort for the Bulldogs, who trailed Georgia Tech 20-6 early in the fourth quarter. Georgia ultimately rattled off 21 points in the fourth quarter, forcing the game to enter overtime.
In the win, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck completed 28-of-his-43 passes for 297 yards and five touchdowns without throwing an interception. Frazier led the Bulldogs in the ground game, collecting 50 rushing yards and a score.

While Kirby Smart may not have been expecting an all-time classic to unfold on Friday evening, he knew his team was in for a war.
“We said we would have less possessions in this game than we’ve ever had before, and we did,” Smart said. “They played really physical, and they had a great plan, but we got some warriors on this team, man.
“Carson Beck, never, never quit. Our coaches never quit. Our kids — we had a short week. They played on Thursday, and we had a short week, and they did a great job and a lot of credit. Great game.”
With the win, Georgia is comfortably in place to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff. Up next, the Bulldogs will square off against the winner of Texas and Texas A&M‘s Week 14 showdown in the SEC Championship. The highly-anticipated game will kick off at 4 p.m. ET on Dec. 7. The game will air live on ABC.
