Report: Multiple Georgia football players arrested on shoplifting charges

by: Alex Byington3 hours ago_AlexByington

Two freshman Georgia football players were arrested and booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail on Friday on shoplifting charges.

Bulldogs starting offensive guard Dontrell Glover and running back Bo Walker were arrested and charged with misdemeanor theft by shoplifting on Friday, according to the Athens Banner-Herald‘s Marc Weiszer. Both have since bonded out on $1,500 bonds, per Athens-Clarke County online records.

Walker was booked at 5:30 pm ET, while Glover was booked at 5:55 pm ET. Both were released roughly two hours later shortly before 8 pm ET, per online records.

“We were informed of the charges and are currently in the process of gathering additional information,” Georgia deputy athletic director Steven Drummond told the Athens Banner-Herald in a statement. “This is a pending legal matter and and we will not have further comment at this time.”

Glover, who has started the last 11 games for No. 3 Georgia (12-1), is an All-SEC Freshman selection, announced earlier this week, while Walker has rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns in a reserve role this season. Walker reportedly missed last weekend’s SEC Championship game vs. Alabama after undergoing surgery for an alleged auto accident.

As SEC Champions, the third-seeded Bulldogs don’t play again until Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl, a College Football Playoff quarterfinal, where they await the winner between No. 6 Ole Miss (11-1) and No. 11 Tulane (11-2), whose first-round Playoff game kicks off at 3:30 pm ET, Dec. 20 in Oxford.

Former Georgia OL Nyier Daniels arrested on multiple felony charges, no longer with team

Friday’s arrests are just the latest legal issues for the Georgia football program. These come less than three weeks since now-former Bulldogs offensive lineman Nyier Daniels was arrested in neighboring Commerce on 13 charges, including felony fleeing from police and two second-degree counts of cruelty to a child, according to UGASports.com’s Anthony Dasher. Daniels was dismissed Nov. 24, one day after his arrest.

Georgia has had a significant history of driving-related incidents in recent years. The most high-profile involved the deaths of staffer Chandler LeCroy and football player Devin Willock in January 2023.

In that incident, then-Bulldogs star defensive tackle Jalen Carter was issued an arrest warrant. He faced charges of reckless driving and street racing, but he pleaded no contest to the charges and received 12 months probation, a fine and community service.

Carter has since been sued by both the Willock family and Victoria Bowles, a former Georgia staffer who survived the car wreck. Suffice it to say driving incidents have been heavily scrutinized ever since at Georgia.

The Bulldogs parted ways with 2024 signee Marques Easley this past Spring after he drove his car into the side of a house, while former receiver Nitro Tuggle entered the transfer portal during the Spring window after he was charged with excessive speeding and reckless driving.
