One week separates us from now and the Kentucky season opener against Toledo. It’s the first of seven home games inside Kroger Field, a great slate for Wildcats fans. Some fun promotions are heading their way as well but one stands out more than others.

Kentucky will have homecoming on Oct. 18, coming against the preseason No. 1-ranked Texas Longhorns. More often than not, schools will schedule homecoming against teams where wins are usually presumed pregame. If anything, an interesting decision from UK.

Homecoming will coincide with family weekend, as will a Keeneland Doubleheader. You can check out the full Kentucky 2025 promotional schedule here, hoping to bring a ton of energy to the massive SEC games they host.

When the Kentucky-Texas matchup takes place, the two will be coming off two very different weeks. UK gets a bye week ahead of the game, the first of two for them. And Texas travels following the Red River Shootout against Oklahoma. No matter the opponent, always a game to circle for the Longhorns due to a possible hangover — win or loss. An area Kentucky can look to take advantage of.

Kick off will come at night too, probably adding a little extra energy. No exact time has been announced by the SEC yet but the lights will be on at Kroger Field with dark skies above.

When Austin was the host city, it was just the second-ever showdown between the two programs. Rewinding the clock to 1951 will help you find the first, a 7-6 win in favor of Texas. Kentucky hopes it’s third time’s the charm, looking to pull off what could be a massive upset.

Head coach Mark Stoops faces a critical year after disappointing in 2024. The schedule he faces is not doing any favors, though. Plenty of preseason-ranked SEC teams show up and as usual, the annual Louisville game presents quite a challenge. Somehow, some way, Stoops will need to pull off an upset or two.

One he got last season pops up quite quickly in Week 2. Kentucky’s lone SEC win came against the Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford. Now, the return trip takes place on Sept. 6 with a 3:30 p.m. start. You know Lane Kiffin wants revenge in a big way and Kentucky can, once again, rain on the parade by starting conference play with a victory.
