Jeff Brohm opens up on how he handled threats against him, Miller Moss

A Jefferson County man was indicted earlier this month on seven charges, including terroristic threatening that was allegedly levied against Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm. That included threats to Brohm’s family and quarterback Miller Moss.
That arrest came shortly after the overtime loss to Cal. Now, Brohm has shared how he’s handled those issues internally.
“Quite honestly, for me, it doesn’t affect me much at all,” Jeff Brohm said. “I think I’m worried about it affecting other people more. That’s my job as the head football coach is to win football games. So, when we don’t win, I’m sure people aren’t going to be happy. I have to be able to take that.”
According to the indictment, Brian Mandel allegedly made the threats via text message. While the exact contents of those threats haven’t been revealed, they allegedly include to injure Miller Moss. Mandel has since entered a not-guilty plea and resigned as the vice chair of the Corpus Christi Planning Commission.
“What I don’t want is for our team to lose confidence in themselves and their ability to play at a high level. Because we’ve had our chances. Everybody can say this, and we could do this,” Brohm said. “But we’ve lost twice on the last play of the game. Then, we had two opportunities to actually kick a field goal to win the game, and the story is different. But, it is what it is. So, I’m the one responsible for it and need to take the heat.”

While threatening anyone isn’t productive, Jeff Brohm does have his own frustrations with Louisville losing three one-score games in their last five outings. Improving on those results is what he wants to focus on moving forward.
“So, just like I’ve always done, you put your head down and go to work. That’s what we’re gonna do. That’s something that I enjoy doing. It’s the football season. You’ve got to grind away, you’ve got to correct things as they come, you’ve got to keep it as clean as you can. Different things pop up now and then, and you’ve got to address it, and hope to play better the next time. We’ve had a couple things shoot us in the foot, and I’ve got to make sure that we don’t have those things happen anymore and we play as clean as we can,” Brohm said.
“Now, it’s a football game. The other team is good too and they’ve got good coaches. You’re not going to win every battle and every play, but you can’t, like I said, shoot yourself in the foot at times when you’re in good position, as long as you don’t do something really negative. And, unfortunately, those things have happened the last couple of games.”
Next up, Jeff Brohm and Louisville will turn their attention to a difficult test against SMU on Saturday. They do this as the Mustangs are battling for the ACC Championship Game.
