2025 College World Series: LSU eliminates Arkansas on walk-off after wild 9th inning

Trailing by two runs entering the bottom of the ninth inning, LSU scored three runs during its final out of the game to walk-off Arkansas 6-5 and advance to the College World Series championship game. LSU’s Jared Jones belted a single over the Razorbacks infield after a wild final stretch.
Before this, Arkansas appeared to have LSU beat in the ninth inning. LSU’s Steven Milam hit a ground ball to the Razorbacks Wehiwa Aloy for a routine double play. Aloy had the opportunity to turn two and end the game. Instead of making the game-winning play, Aloy threw to third base for the second out of the inning.
The Tigers would make the most of Arkansas’ missed opportunity. A double to left field by LSU’s Luis Hernandez — which hit the glove of Arkansas outfielder Charles Davalan who was unable to come up with the catch — tied the game before Jones came up to bat to finish off the Razorbacks.
This completed the comeback from two runs down in the final half-inning to take the victory and advance to the CWS championship series. Here was the final play.
The immediate reaction from the Arkansas dugout was to console those who were on the field playing defense during the final stretch. Specifically, the team came to the emotional aid of Davalan and Aloy as both were in position to give Arkansas the win at the end of the game but came up just short in their attempts.

Meanwhile, the Tigers were celebrating on the other side of the field as they’re now two victories away from claiming their second national championship in three seasons. LSU previously won the 2023 title behind ace pitcher Paul Skenes and his big league fastball. It would be the eighth national title in program history. The Tigers are 7-1 all-time in the championship series with the single outlier coming during the 2017 season.
LSU now enters the championship series against Coastal Carolina — who have won 26 consecutive games heading into the final stretch in Omaha. The Chanticleers punched their ticket to the championship series following an 11-3 win over Louisville.
After a fast start to the CWS, the first pitch for Game 1 of the best of three championship series is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The game will be aired live on ESPN, and the Tigers have opened as early betting favorites, per ESPN Bet.
