The LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks played an instant classic at the 2025 College World Series on Wednesday night. They’d play chaotic eighth and ninth innings, which saw LSU score three runs in the bottom of the ninth to win and advance to the championship series.

After the game, LSU didn’t hold back with its celebration. That would include going into the crowd at Charles Schwab Field and finding family members of individual players to celebrate together and embrace one another.

The moment was clearly a special one for the LSU players and their families. You can watch them share that moment together, here:

In the video, freshman outfielder Derek Curiel, sophomore outfielder Ashton Larson, junior infielder Daniel Dickinson, and sophomore two-way player Jake Brown are among the LSU players who can be seen taking a moment with family members. They were far from the only ones who did so, though, celebrating with the family that has seen them grow and develop since they first started playing the game to get them to where they are now.

Arkansas came into the game needing a win to force another game against LSU ahead of the championship series. The Tigers, for their part, wanted to end things with one game to avoid an elimination game and get some rest ahead of the championship series.

Going into the eighth inning, LSU held a 2-1 lead on the back of an excellent start from Zac Cowan. Then, in the eighth inning, Arkansas got to Chase Shores out of the bullpen. A two-run top of the eighth put LSU behind the eight-ball. Still, a Jared Jones home run would tie it up again in the bottom of the eighth. This was a thriller, though, and the Razorbacks took a 5-3 lead in the top of the ninth.

The Tigers would rally again in the bottom of the ninth. That included a Luis Hernandez double that scored two to tie the game. The very next batter was Jared Jones again, who hit a single to walk it off and send Arkansas home.

LSU has been dominant since the Field of 64 was set. Outside of one upset loss to Little Rock in the Baton Rouge Regional, the Tigers took care of business. They’d go on to host West Virginia in the Super Regional, winning it in two games without a loss. Now, since getting to Omaha and the College World Series, LSU has gone 3-0 with two wins over Arkansas and a win over UCLA.

The championship series is set and LSU is hoping to keep its momentum going into the weekend. There, the Tigers are set to take on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers out of the Sun Belt. The Chanticleers are currently on a 26-game winning streak and have rolled through the postseason. That’s included beating an SEC team, Auburn, in the Super Regional.

LSU and Coastal Carolina will begin the three-game championship series on Saturday, June 21st. They’ll play through Monday if the game on Monday turns out to be necessary.
