One of LSU‘s top targets in the passing game is on the mend during fall camp. Receiver Aaron Anderson has been limited early on in camp as a result of some knee inflammation.

The injury isn’t expected to cost him any playing time during the season, but it has impacted his ramp-up to full activity. Anderson missed three practices recently after experiencing the inflammation.

Coach Brian Kelly provided an update on Aaron Anderson on Monday. He met with reporters and gave the latest.

“I think today he felt really good,” Kelly said. “We’re going to be very careful with him. This is the result of — he was great this summer in his training, never missed a day. Probably a little bit of too much work in that sense, where he had some inflammation in the knee. We took an MRI, bone scan. Everything looks really good.”

It’s simply a matter of putting him on a “pitch count” right now to make sure he’s ready to roll when the season begins, Kelly explained. Anderson has already proven he can play at a high level.

Aaron Anderson initially began his career at Alabama, where he dealt with some knee issues. Those have lingered into his time at LSU.

The talented 5-foot-8, 188-pound receiver is explosive when healthy, though. He had a breakout season for the Tigers in 2024, catching 61 passes for 884 yards and five touchdowns.

Kelly broke down the next step for his talented receiver. He concluded his update:

“Now it’s about just getting him back moving,” Kelly said. “So he’ll do some agility and some movement tomorrow with the hope that Wednesday we’ve got him back out on the field.”

LSU circling season opener vs. Clemson

The Tigers will certainly be hoping that things play out as expected with Aaron Anderson and he’s able to contribute early on this season. The road is difficult right out of the gates.

LSU has not won a season opener under Brian Kelly. Entering year four, the Tigers are looking to change that against Clemson on the road.

So far in three seasons at the helm of LSU’s football program, Kelly has kept the program in the upper echelon of the SEC, compiling a 29-11 record over that stretch. Still, Tigers fans are still waiting on their first trip to the College Football Playoff under his guidance. Getting off to a quality start to the season is a huge part of that.

“We’ve addressed this in January,” Kelly told reporters. “We addressed it with the guys that we brought in. We addressed it in the way we trained our football team. We addressed it in spring ball, and then into our off season, and again, we’ve made it pretty known. You know what our goal is, and our goal is to go 1-0.

“If there’s anything that is slightly different from in years past, it’s that we are so much more intentional about getting to Aug. (30) in January, and that focus has remained the same for the last seven and a half months.”
