The coaching carousel has continued to spin this season, with more moves possibly to come coming out of Saturday’s results. That could even be the case down at LSU, with Booger McFarland now seemingly weighing in this afternoon.

McFarland took to social media to post about the coaching carousel, namely with much of the hot seat discussions now focusing on Brian Kelly. He used a metaphor of musical chairs, with it being a wonder if the Tigers’ chair could come open.

“Musical chairs is gonna start When it stops …..” McFarland wrote.

Again, much of this comes after last night’s loss for LSU. The Tigers fell to 5-3 (2-3) overall, having now lost three of their last four over the last month to no longer be in contention for the SEC Championship or the College Football Playoff, with a 49-25 defeat to No. 3 Texas A&M in Death Valley. They also had road losses at No. 13 Ole Miss (24-19) and at No. 17 Vanderbilt (31-24). Their five win have also led to causes for concern, namely based on their offensive output as they’ve averaged only 25.6 ppg. this fall.

Now, with those postseason hopes over with, Kelly finds himself firmly on the hot seat down in Baton Rouge. That’s despite a record of 34-14 (.708) over his tenure of three and a half seasons, as LSU, with the standards as high as they are for the program, has just one appearance in the SEC Championship and no berths in the CFP since his arrival in 2022.

Firing Kelly would be quite the decision by LSU, specifically in relation to his reported buyout of just over $53 million. But, as we’ve already seen elsewhere around college football during this season, few coaches are currently safe, even at that kind of price on a buyout, with musical chairs being played around the country as far as jobs opening up in the sport.

Brian Kelly hot seat: Update emerges on future of LSU head coach, Louisiana governor involved

Athletic department officials and university executives at LSU are currently holding high-level discussions on the future of Brian Kelly, according to On3‘s Pete Nakos. These conversations have involved Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, who inserted himself into the conversation following Saturday night’s 49-25 loss to No. 3 Texas A&M.

In addition, Nakos reported LSU’s position coaches have all been sent home from the facility for the day, further casting doubt on Kelly’s future with the Tigers.
