Amid LSU‘s offensive struggles in the second half against Vanderbilt, ESPN’s Booger McFarland did not mince words when speaking on his alma mater’s offensive coordinator. He believes it’s time for aleadership change in Baton Rouge, at least offensively.

“Joe Sloan is NOT good at his job,” McFarland tweeted. “I’ve seen enough.”

The Tigers would go on to lose 31-24 to Vanderbilt on the road, calling into question what’s next for LSU. Brian Kelly’s squad had playoff aspirations coming into the season and now with two losses, time could be running out on the Tigers’ College Football Playoff push.

The first half went for LSU, scoring on three of its four drives before halftime despite trailing 17-13. The second half was a different story.

LSU had one possession in the third quarter which spanned 2:11, which resulted in a touchdown. The Tigers scored a field goal during their next possession to begin the final quarter — but that would be all the points Vanderbilt’s defense allowed.

Sloan’s offensive unit would go on to have two more possessions during the fourth quarter to try and tie the game. Both resulted in three-and-outs, combining for negative 10 yards during that stretch.

Coming into the matchup, LSU’s offense ranked 12th in the SEC averaging 373.5 yards per game as well as 25.8 points per game. However, their 24 points were the most this LSU offense was responsible for aside from the 56-10 win over SE Louisiana. The Tigers had scored between 23 or less points in the other five matchups.

Looking ahead, LSU will take on No. 4 Texas A&M at home next weekend. A victory over the Aggies could be a massive boost for the Tigers’ resume. Though, that’s easier said than done as the Aggies are currently off to its first 6-0 start to the season since 2016.

After that, LSU still has top 25 matchups against the likes of Alabama (Nov. 8) and Oklahoma (Nov. 29) down the stretch. Both of those games will be on the road for the Tigers.

Vanderbilt plays Callin’ Baton Rouge after upset win over LSU

No. 17 Vanderbilt trolled LSU following its 31-24 win over the Tigers in Nashville. Over the speakers inside FirstBank Stadium, the Commodores played Garth Brooks’ Callin’ Baton Rouge to send LSU back home.

That song plays before every LSU home game, and the Commodores blared it over the loudspeakers as soon as the game ended. Unfortunately fort the Tigers, the 1993 hit didn’t sound as sweet in Music City.
