Brian Kelly breaks down how LSU frustrated DJ Lagway, forced five interceptions

Brian Kelly’s LSU squad sent Florida packing with an embarrassing loss in Week 3. The Tigers picked off Gators quarterback DJ Lagway five times during the contest.
It was an awesome defensive performance from LSU, leading to their third win of the season. Afterwards, Kelly took some time to explain how the Tigers were able to frustrate Lagway throughout the night, and cause a litany of turnovers.
“As you saw, he was never really settled in the pocket. We were moving that pocket with pressure. He could never quite settle and get into rhythm,” Kelly said, via his postgame press conference. “Most of those picks came on out-of-rhythm throws. That was the game plan — get him out of rhythm.
“We brought a lot of pressures — they were of five-man pressures, and that let us stay in good coverage looks. Even with some of the simulated pressures, we had zone defenders in a good position. So we weren’t caught in many straight one-on-one situations. There was always somebody overlapping from the top down.”
Alas, Florida will have to go back to the drawing board offensively, while LSU’s defense is receiving immense praise after their performance. It’s easy to see why, and they’ve been the surprising backbone of the Tigers in 2025.
It won’t get any easier for LSU when SEC play ramps up. They have a bit of a reprieve this coming weekend against Southeastern Louisiana at least. They’ll be able to cut their teeth on some inferior competition.

Moreover, Paul Finebaum is all in on Kelly after LSU’s 20-10 win over Florida Saturday night. Even after the Tigers had a lackluster offensive performance, and Kelly’s fiery postgame comments.

Kelly didn’t take too kindly to a question about the offense struggling for the third straight game, despite a third straight win. He cut off a reporter and told him to “stop” while going on a rant and also asking “what do you want from me?”
For Finebaum, he thought it was entertaining and probably a little funny. If LSU keeps winning, Kelly will have the last laugh: “I’m ‘Paul In’ because that guy asked him a question, that was me four years ago, and I would still be asking another follow up,” Finebaum said on SportsCenter. “But give Brain Kelly credit. He came after Dabo a couple weeks ago, and now he’s trying to become a new Herm Edwards.
“I mean, you have, you have to give Brian Kelly credit for being ingenious, because that was such a great answer, and that’s all people are going to be talking about. But don’t forget, his team wasn’t bad defensively. Offensively? I’m sorry, I don’t want Brian Kelly coming after me.”
Perhaps LSU’s offense will back up there coach’s confidence more over the latter part of the season. Regardless, the Tigers have survived two massive opponents already in 2025, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down at the moment.
