The LSU Tigers will kickoff their 2022 season against another prominent southern football program. LSU will face off against the Florida State Seminoles in a Sunday night matchup on Sept 4. To set the stage for the Brian Kelly era at LSU, the game will be played down the street in New Orleans at the Caesar’s Superdome; home of the Saints. During a recent interview, Kelly explains what opening his LSU coaching career in New Orleans means to him.

“I don’t mind if we look at it a little bit, but I am so much in the in the present,” said Kelly. “But once in awhile, you get a sense of you know I’m gonna have that first game and it’s gonna be in New Orleans. And that’s really exciting to be in New Orleans which is an incredibly… that football environment is going to be exciting. So looking forward to it. We got a lot of work to do before we get there. But it’s certainly on that eye that you have, you know that you’re looking forward to it.”

Kelly might be looking at the present, and rightfully so, but fans of the program are eager to see how his era of LSU football kicks off. And Tiger fans will get to see that at the home of their beloved NFL team’s stadium in a primetime matchup. The game will kickoff at 6:30 PM CT.

Kelly explains why LSU did not name starting quarterback

Some major college football programs have already announced who their starting quarterback will be heading into summer training camps. However, the LSU Tigers and head coach Brian Kelly were not a part of that group. During an interview with a local news station, Kelly explains why LSU did not name a starting quarterback following spring practice. And the Tigers headman also went into what role the transfer portal played in their decision not to name a starter.

“Well certainly that’s unintended consequences of that,” said Kelly, in response to whether he planned on not naming a starter to prevent one of the quarterbacks from transferring. “I don’t think we went in there with that game plan; let’s get this thing muddied so nobody can transfer. Here’s what happened. We needed to put a new offense in and that offense really needed to take precedence over fitting it towards any one particular quarterback. And the reality is each one has a different skill set. So what will happen now is that when we go into camp, the real work begins, because we’re gonna have to fit the offense to each one of their skill sets. So the separation will take place in preseason camp.”
