Brian Kelly on John Emery bounce-back game: I think he needed it

Running back John Emery is one of the most naturally talented players on the LSU team. However, after missing the 2021 season, he was looking to bounce back in 2022. Dealing with injuries and missing three games, however, he’s seemingly not hit his potential yet. However, Brian Kelly knows he can bounce back.
That bounce back very well may have begun in LSU’s loss to Texas A&M. In that game, he ran for three touchdowns and averaged 6.1 yards per carry.
“Yeah, I think he needed it,” Brian Kelly said. “I think he needed it for himself. I think obviously he took it hard last week, the week before, in not taking care of the football.”

“Coach [Frank] Wilson does a great job of making sure that those guys understand how important it is. It was great to see him come back this week, again, from his career-best three rushing touchdowns”
John Emery was a five-star recruit and the number two recruit overall in the Class of 2019, games like the one against Texas A&M are what he’s capable of producing. Now that he’s done it through some adversity, he can build on that performance in easier times.

“A really nice way to respond from some adversity. That’s what this game gives you the opportunity for. It was good to see it.”
Brian Kelly gave an update on Jayden Daniels
LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels has been dealing with his own ankle injury, which Brian Kelly gave an update on. This could be huge ahead of the SEC title game. If he’s unable to play at full capacity, then LSU will need players like John Emery to step up in his place.
“He’s got an ankle,” Brian Kelly said. “The ankle was the last one. The first hit, I think he bounced back from that. The second one was more of an ankle.”
