LSU’s decision to fire Brian Kelly this past weekend immediately turned the college football world’s attention toward who could replace him in Baton Rouge. According to former ESPN analyst David Pollack, there’s one name that stands out above the rest, and it’s Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin.

During his See Ball Get Ball podcast, Pollack made it clear that LSU’s culture and expectations perfectly align with Kiffin’s personality, energy and offensive brilliance: “Lane Kiffin, I think it’s going to be very hard to say no to this job,” Pollack said. “I know Lane’s happy. I said I didn’t think he would leave for Florida because he’s happy. He’s got everything he wants.

“Now, this is a different animal. This is a tailor-made job with swag. You’ve got to have dudes with swag. You’ve got to have an edge about you. Lane Kiffin’s got an edge, right? Lane Kiffin knows how to coach offense.”

Pollack continued, emphasizing how Kiffin’s adaptability and success in the modern college football landscape would make him an ideal fit for LSU: “Lane Kiffin has adapted to this new-school model exceptionally well. Lane Kiffin’s winning at a high level,” he said.

“I think it’s going to be really hard for Lane to say no to LSU. I would make it abundantly clear. I would make it harder for him to say no. I would throw a lot of zeros in his direction. I’m going to make Lane say no. I’m absolutely going to make him say no.”

Alas, Kiffin’s stock couldn’t be much higher right now. Ole Miss is 7-1 with four games left to play, and the Rebels are in the thick of both the SEC title hunt and the College Football Playoff race.

It’s arguably the best coaching job Kiffin has done in his career. He’s built a balanced, resilient team that’s beating quality opponents while maintaining swagger and offensive creativity throughout it all.

For now, any speculation about Kiffin’s future will have to wait. Ole Miss still has plenty left to play for, including three straight home games that could define their season. Among them remains a matchup with Florida — ironically, that’s one of the programs rumored to have interest in Kiffin before LSU’s vacancy opened.

First, Kiffin and the Rebels will focus on South Carolina as they continue their march toward a possible playoff berth. Perhaps the biggest decision of Kiffin’s career awaits once the season ends though.
