Ed Orgeron is out of coaching at the moment, but that hasn’t kept him from being active in college football circles. Recently he appeared on Pardon My Take and provided an interesting statement about his 2019 LSU team.

He said it’s the best team he’s ever been a part of. And Orgeron has coached some great squads over the years.

“I’ll say this: With Joe (Burrow) I think we could beat anybody,” Ed Orgeron said. “But you hear comparisons here and there and you know what my answer is? It’s got to be won on the field.”

That LSU team was certainly ridiculous. It led the country in total offense, producing more than 568 yards per game. The Tigers also led the nation in scoring offense, averaging 48.4 points per game.

Ed Oregeron left little doubt. He believes that LSU team is in the running for the greatest college team of all time.

“Now they’ve had some other great teams, but I do believe with Joe and the team that we had we could have beat anybody we played that year,” Orgeron said.

How many elite teams has Orgeron been a part of? The answer rolls off his tongue quite quickly.

“Five national championships,” Ed Orgeron said, before adding more. “I’d put that LSU team in front of everybody.”

The bottom line: That 2019 LSU team was as elite as they come. Orgeron did a masterful job getting everything to fit, because there were a lot of alpha personalities that needed to work together.

The success was also a product of Ed Orgeron’s failures at other stops. He learned and adapted.

“You know, first of all all the pieces came together,” Orgeron said. “There’s a lot of stories of stuff came together here and there. … I had a blueprint from Jimmy Johnson. I had a blueprint from Pete Carroll. Now it’s my time to do it. I went to Ole Miss and made a bunch of mistakes. I told everybody, ‘Don’t worry about my mistakes, I did them all at Ole Miss.'”
