Garrett Nussmeier shares value of third Manning Passing Academy trip

Garrett Nussmeier is one of the many top quarterbacks in college football who are performing at the Manning Passing Academy this weekend. The event is being held on the campus of Nicholls State in Thibodeaux, Louisiana from June 26-29.
The LSU quarterback is preparing for his fifth and final season at the collegiate level. Despite his experience, he still holds the passing camp in high regard.
“It’s awesome to be out here, to get to spend time with the other quarterbacks across the country,” Nussmeier told the media. “This is my third year here, and it’s a great experience. You get out here and get to compete with them, hang out and just talk through different things. A lot of us know each other. Quarterbacks are a very tight-knit group. We’ve all been to camps with each other since we were young and things like that, so it’s all familiar faces and it’s always a lot of fun to get to catch up and reminisce.”
Names such as Marcel Reed (Texas A&M), LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina), Arch Manning (Texas), and Cade Klubnik (Clemson), among others are all in attendance at the event. Nussmeier is rooming with Manning, and the two have been getting along like they’ve known each other for a long time.

Several of Nussmeier’s camp-mates at the Manning Passing Academy will also be his opponent this coming season. Of that four other quarterbacks already mentioned, LSU plays three of the four with Texas being the only exception. Nussmeier’s LSU Tigers will take on Klubnik and the Clemson Tigers on the road during the season opener. The LSU quarterback said those are the moments why he chose to stay in Baton Rouge all of these years.
After Nussmeier attended last year’s event, he went on to lead LSU to a 6-1 start in 2024. The Tigers looked to be in contention for a spot in the College Football Playoff before three consecutive losses in SEC play hindered their postseason bid. LSU ended up finishing the season with a 9-4 record during Nussmeier’s first season as starting quarterback.
He finished the season with 4,052 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. It was a great start for the senior from Lake Charles, but he has one more opportunity to lead his team to the CFP. He’ll look to make the most of his opportunity, which begins on the road against Klubnik and Clemson on Aug. 30.
