Brian Kelly provides update on Kayshon Boutte after Florida State loss, social media scrubbing
To say LSU lost to Florida State on Monday in heartbreaking fashion would be an understatement. Head coach Brian Kelly was so close to getting off to a perfect start but now, the Tigers find themselves 0-1 to begin the year. Everybody involved with the program took the loss hard but star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte may have the most.
Boutte was quick to scrub anything LSU related from his social media, causing some conversation to be had about his future. The wide receiver did admit just before the season started that he thought about leaving Baton Rouge to pursue other opportunities.

Kelly provided an update on Boutte on Tuesday, saying he had a conversation with LSU’s No. 7. He admitted it wasn’t Boutte’s best performance, saying there could have been some rust involved after missing a majority of the 2021 season.
“I think there were a number of those guys that were disappointed in their play,” Kelly said. “They’re so hard on themselves. They want to succeed at such a high level. So, yeah, I had a conversation with Kayshon and his standard is so high. Obviously, it was a difficult day for him. It wasn’t his best. But he’s going to have great games. It’s going to be in the totality of his work that he’s going to be evaluated.”
“You know, he hadn’t played in a while. He had been out with an injury. Maybe there was a little rust there. He’s the least guy I am concerned about on our offense but he’s not. He carries that with him every single day.”

Brian Kelly helping Kayshon Boutte work through scrunity
Boutte has a difficult time getting involved with the LSU offense, only having two receptions for 20 yards. For somebody who is regarded as a top receiver in the SEC, it’s easy to see why Boutte was disappointed in the performance from a team and personal level.
Kelly said the conversation with Boutte led to the two working on how to deal with the scrutiny. There’s still room to grow per the Tigers’ head coach but he did say Boutte’s reaction was justified.
“He’s learning how to deal with that. He’s a young man who hasn’t been in this situation before and he needs some guidance. We spent some time, worked some things out that will help him handle the scrutiny. Quite frankly, the scrutiny was strong and his reaction was probably similar to what my reaction would be as a 60-year-old. He’s handled it in a manner that he’ll learn from and continue to grow from.”
