Jordan Rodgers: Garrett Nussmeier is 'best QB in the country, most NFL-ready'

Jordan Rodgers was supremely impressed with Garrett Nussmeier in Week 1. After leading LSU to victory over Clemson, the SEC Network analyst believes the Tigers star quarterback is the cream of the crop in college football
“I saw the best quarterback in the country—the most NFL-ready quarterback—because of what he did at the line of scrimmage,” Rodgers stated, via Get Up on Wednesday. “He controlled protections, adjusted plays, and managed everything pre-snap. Under pressure, he was brilliant: five of six for 52 yards, four first downs, and only one sack.
“Most importantly, he protected the football. That was his Achilles’ heel last year, when he threw too many interceptions in bunches. Now, he’s showing elite arm talent and elite anticipation, which were on full display.
“Honestly, that was probably just a B-minus game from him—against the number four team in the country—and he still got it done. That bodes really well for Garrett. I think he’s the best quarterback in the country right now.”
While Nussmeier didn’t stuff the stat-sheet, the eye test was passed with flying colors. Rodgers’ colleague in Louis Riddick wholeheartedly agrees with his assessment, wondering why the LSU star isn’t receiving more fanfare at the moment.

“I never understood why he wasn’t getting more attention coming into this season,” Riddick responded. “I think people became fixated on the trials and tribulations he had last year—especially that stretch with interceptions—and they forgot who this kid really is. They overlooked how smooth, efficient, and much of a field general he can be.
“In this game, he looked under control and in command from start to finish. As far as comparing him to Cade Klubnik—I’ve seen Cade play live three or four times now, and this is no disrespect to him, but he’s not in Garrett’s league. Garrett is on a different level.
“Garrett, LaNorris [Sellers]—those are the guys you’re going to be talking about down the stretch. It’ll also be interesting to see what Drew Allar looks like. I hope I get the chance to see him live this year because he’s another guy who’s made tremendous strides. Carson Beck showed you something too. It’s a great, great season if you love quarterback play in college football. We’re going to have plenty to watch.”
College football is littered with tremendous talent at quarterback, and Rodgers and Riddick believe Nussmeier is at the forefront of it all. We’ll see if he can stay there over the remainder of the season, but LSU seems to be a force with their young star signal-caller leading the charge.
