Louisiana governor Jeff Landry calls out LSU for planned ticket price increase after Texas A&M loss

On Friday the LSU Board of Supervisors approved a measure to increase season ticket prices starting in 2026. But the state’s governor is calling on the program to rethink that decision.
Governor Jeff Landry tweeted about the new season ticket prices on Saturday, following the team’s 49-25 loss to No. 3 Texas A&M. The Tigers weren’t particularly competitive in the game and the stands had mostly cleared of LSU fans by the time the game went final.
“I think [LSU] and the LSU Board of Supervisors needs to rethink their actions to raise ticket prices for next year after tonight’s showing!” Landry wrote on Twitter.
The increases to season ticket prices range depending on the seating location, but they are slated to go up by as much as $125 in some areas. The program is projecting that the higher prices will generate an additional $4.5 million in revenue, according to a report from Nola.com.
“Price changes focus on areas with high renewal rates and high secondary market values,” a statement from the LSU Board of Supervisors said. “LSU is not changing any pricing in the upper deck other than the Skyline Club, which includes food and beverage in the ticket price.
“Keeping upper deck season ticket prices as they are currently will allow LSU Athletics to be more flexible with individual game prices and provides an additional option for fans to purchase season tickets at a lower price point.”
LSU was thoroughly humbled on Saturday night in its home loss to Texas A&M. The game was competitive for most of the first half before the Aggies went on a run, scoring 35 unanswered points.
That left fans chanting to fire head coach Brian Kelly, who has suddenly become embattled as the Tigers have exited playoff contention before the month of November. Whether Kelly is legitimately in jeopardy of losing his job remains a subject of debate. In fact, the ABC broadcast crew calling Saturday’s game discussed it.

Could Brian Kelly be fired?
ABC’s Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit discussed the ‘Fire Kelly’ chants late in the fourth quarter on Saturday night. They were split on what the noise means for Kelly.
“Now, obviously a very passionate fanbase,” Fowler said. “When they’re winning, laissez les bons temps rouler, let the good times roll on the bayou. When they’re not, their passion turns to anger, frustration. They want to change everything, including the coach.”
Herbstreit then chimed in, pointing out that Kelly has a huge buyout with LSU. That could be a major deterrent.
“He signed a 10-year, $95 million contract in 2021,” he said. “He’s got a buyout for $53 million, so it that even, I mean besides the fans and the noise, is that even… it’s not real, right?”
What’s clear at this point, though, is that Kelly is undoubtedly on a warming seat. How hot it gets remains to be seen, but he’s got work to do.
“It’ll be loud, very loud,” Fowler said. “Buyouts have not necessarily been something that prevents teams from making a move. Brian Kelly, got a bit of concern, I think he really believes that they’ve got a great recruiting class lined up, believes that they’ll sign. The real weakness of this team, one particular area, is kind of an important one: the offensive line is what’s held it back more than anything.”
