Great Oak (Temecula, CA) right-handed pitcher Reagan Ricken has withdrawn from the 2025 MLB Draft and will attend LSU next season. ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel reported the news on Friday morning.

Ricken was tabbed as the No. 69 overall ranked player in the Class of 2025. He was ranked No. 206 on Future Stars Series’ Joe Doyle‘s Top 615 Draft board.

“Has a simple delivery on the mound with a long on line arm action with plenty of whip and looseness out front, high 3/4’s arm slot,” Perfect Game said about Ricken. “Fastball was frequently in the mid-90’s and topped out at 95 mph, up to 20″ of IVB on the fastball, threw consistent strikes with the pitch. Also landed a low 80’s slider well, short off the barrel breaking action. Flashed a plus changeup in the upper 80’s. Starter profile with some projection remaining. Two-way talent. 7.19 runner in the sixty.”

“Secondary catcher, has obvious big arm strength as his best defensive tool. Right-handed hitter, hits from a wide base with a short stride and a deep hand load, long and lifting swing with lots of juice when he gets out front, swings hard.”

LSU has become “Pitcher U”

Ricken seeks to become the next young arm to excel at LSU, joining recent stars right-handers Paul Skenes, Luke Holman, Ty Floyd and left-hander Gage Jump. The Tigers are set to have even more pitchers selected in the upcoming MLB Draft, including potential No. 1 overall pick Kade Anderson, Anthony Eyanson and Chase Shores.

“I said this, people were laughing at me but if you’re a pitcher and you don’t want to come here you’re out to lunch,” LSU head coach Jay Johnson said last week. “The Draft, signing bonus and all that… we’ve accumulated about 12 million real quickly in the past few years. And when this Draft starts we’ll have Kade [Anderson]Anthony [Eyanson] and Chase [Shores] getting to 14 million. I feel real proud of what we’ve done on that side of the ball with coach [Nate] Yeskie and it’s been awesome to see the results and its led to championships and Major League Baseball dreams.”

The Temecula, CA native now heads to a Tiger program which has won two of the last three Men’s College World Series. Jay Johnson is building a dynasty in Baton Rouge, and Rickert seems to be just another piece of the puzzle. Expect LSU to be tabbed as one of the favorites once again heading into 2026.
