LSU cornerback Ashton Stamps expected to enter NCAA transfer portal

LSU cornerback Ashton Stamps is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos. Stamps is in the middle of his junior season with the Tigers.
He started all 13 games for LSU at cornerback during the 2024 season but has been more limited in 2025. He has appeared in just three games.
LSU coach Brian Kelly confirmed that Ashton Stamps plans to move on from the team on Wednesday on an SEC teleconference call. He did not provide further details.
“He is no longer on the roster,” Kelly said. Kelly was asked point blank about Stamps’ status.
In total in his career at LSU, Ashton Stamps has logged 17 starts and 27 appearances. He has tallied 75 tackles, as well as 18 pass breakups.
Earlier this offseason, Stamps spoke to the improved depth in LSU’s cornerback room, which may have been a factor in his departure. He thought the Tigers were doing a nice job competing with each other in fall camp.

“From the past few years, it was kind of hard for the corner group to gel together because everybody felt like they were going against each other,” Ashton Stamps said. “In reality, this year we’ve been working together as a group, getting each other better. No jealousy, none of that. …
“You’ve got freshmen coming in, veterans like Mansor (Delane) who has been at a different program and knows how to carry himself, and DJ (Pickett) coming in ready to work. He’s got great ability. We’re helping each other instead of going against each other. Some people might think it’s Mansor vs. me, or me vs. DJ, or Ja’Keem (Jackson) vs. PJ (Woodland), but it’s not like that. We’re all just working.”
As noted, Ashton Stamps was coming off a monster season as a sophomore in 2024. During that campaign, with 13 starts, he recorded 51 tackles and 14 pass breakups.
