Brian Kelly provides timeline on preparation for LSU opener vs. Florida State

Brian Kelly’s timeline for LSU’s preparation against Florida State is rapidly approaching, but not quite yet.
The Tigers head coach wants to wrap up fall camp before the pivotal season opener. Yes, pivotal as it could mean a great deal for the College Football Playoff rankings later this season.
But don’t worry, preparation for the Seminoles is coming.
“We’ll do some, a little bit of Florida State (prep) but we’re not fully into a Florida State practice,” Kelly said. “I’d say Thursday, Friday, Saturday, you know, I think you know, probably, when you break down like preparation for me, I look at like a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in season. Then we’ll do that twice. So we’ve got plenty of time. So I would say probably Thursday, Friday, this week, we’ll begin to really focus on Florida State.”
Kelly and LSU will need plenty of preparation for Florida State and Heisman caliber quarterback Jordan Travis.
Speaking with On3‘s Andy Staples, FSU head coach Mike Norvell explained how Travis’ success is a testament to the work he’s put in over the years. Even coming off of last season’s spectacular performance, the coach wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest to see him take another leap forward.
“It truly came down to work,” Norvell explained. “We had a great plan in helping Jordan develop to build confidence in what we were asking him to do. We’re a rhythm-based passing offense and I think that’s something that Jordan thrives in. He’s an extremely smart quarterback.

“He understands progressions. He understands protections and where the ball needs to go in a very quick process in his mind. As he’s worked through it, he’s had to go through the highs and lows of playing quarterback. He’s experienced it all, but he’s never backed off. He’s continued to push.”
LSU has its own Heisman caliber quarterback to combat Florida State in Jayden Daniels. It should be a more high profile matchup than last season’s opener.
“I think we’ve done a really good job with Daniels and (Garrett) Nussmeier and continued to work, and I think Joe’s done a really nice job of staying focused on their technical development and I like where they’ve gone in terms of that development at the quarterback position,” Kelly said of his quarterback room.
LSU and Florida State go head-to-head at a neutral site once again, this time Camping World Stadium in Orlando (Fla.) on September 5.
